PRACTICE STANDARDS

In 2005 the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons set up a scheme of voluntary self regulation for Veterinary practices.  This is very wide ranging covering all aspects of our work, its aims being to assure the public that the service with which we are providing them is up to the College’s required standards.

The Scheme has three levels: from Tier 1, which is the basic requirements for every veterinary surgery to Tier 3, for referral practices and veterinary hospitals.  Then there are three different streams: small animal, equine and large animal, each of which have a different focus, although many of the core requirements will be common to all three.

At present approximately 40% of all practices have joined the scheme and of those 70% have applied to enter Tier 2 Small Animal.  This covers all necessary Health and Safety and Employment Law issues as well as all the essentials for maintaining clinically clean premises.  Above all, it ensures that all procedures are carried out in the correct environment, by staff well trained in present day techniques, and that clients have the assurance that their animals are receiving the best possible treatment.

The Veterinary Centre is a Tier 2 accredited practice.
